THE HEART
AND SOUL
Where are you from and where do you now reside?I am from the suburbs of Baltimore Md. I have been living in Atlanta Ga since 1997.How important is an artist's development in the photography industry?I think that it is through artists developing that the photography industry progresses. Photographers who are not artists, dont push the boundaries of what is being done. What hard lessons have you learned while working in your industry?I learned that accepting checks from anyone is a roll of the dice. Also its not how good you are, its about who knows that you are good. Thats the difference between starving artist and successful businessman.Where do you find the inspiration for you ideas?I find inspiration in others art that I respect. Good music, movies and other visual media can inspire me to create art myself. Boredom also can get my juices flowing. To me, creating something beautiful or dope or ill as hell, is the opposite of boredom. I collect random thoughts and filter them into a concept that makes me happy. What person do you feel made an impact on your decision to become a photographer and why?My parents both worked jobs for 30 years that they really didnt like. Seeing that made me want to be happy at whatever I chose to do. When I found photography, and a love for it, I decided that if I pursued it, I could be happy. Many years later, that still remains true. I appreciate my parents for choosing security over their dreams for the sake of our family. I feel that because they did that, I dont have to. Things have been working out so far.In your own words describe what it means to be original. To be original is to be true to your own self. To create something from your own mind and inspiration. Even if what is created is similar to something already out there. How important is it for an Artist to reinvent themselves and how often should one do this?Artist reinvention and its importance is up to each individual. Some people can pursue a single vision for their entire lives. Others for only as long as the weed lasts. I subscribe to the Method Man philosophy..."there's mad different methods to the way I do my shit." So I always strive for something new and to refine what I already do.-You exhibit several different styles on your website such as Fashion, Beauty, and Artistry to name a few. Are there different techniques used in each style? Which style do you prefer working with the most? There are different techniques used for the many kinds of photography. Lighting, composition and depth of field can all be manipulated to change the feeling or style of an image. There are standards for shooting basic images of any type of photography. Creativity comes in when you can add to or subtract from the standard formula to make your own style. As I said before, I shoot many different styles. As an artist I dont want to be limited by lack of skill when I set out to create what I see in my head. My favorite style is the black and white fine art nude using shadows as well as light. What is one of your biggest accomplishments as a photographer? My greatest accomplishment is not having a real job for the last 10 years. It feels great to be able to support your life by doing what you love, especially when its your art. What's the best thing about being a photgrapger? The best thing about being a photographer is when a shoot works out and the finished product exceeds expectations. That feels great. What's the worst thing about being an photographer? The worst is people expecting me to do plastic surgery in Photoshop. Im not a graphic designer, although I know plenty with good rates. Do you have a favorite photographer? If so, who?I dont have a favorite photographer. I dont pay much attention to who doing what, or who is who in the first place. Where do you see yourself and your photography in 3 years? In 3 years, I would like to live mainly off of my published work and residuals from them. I would still do contract work as well but not as my main source of income. Its all about residual income though. What does Nsyde Out stand for?Nsyde Out stands for art being the heart and soul of an artist. So, art is a representation of whats on the inside of a person, on the outside."Never Say You Didn't Experience One's Unique Talent"
